    Isaiah 35:8

And a highway will be there; it will be called the of HOLINESS. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for thos who walk in that way; wicked fools will not go about on it.

Yes, there is no mercy for the disobedient.

They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. Jonah 2:8

Those who think good deeds can "undo" or "counter-balance" their evil heart inexcusably underestimate the seriousness of God's law.

When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it. Ezekiel 33:13

If they honor the law, they will keep it, relying only on God's mercy for forgiveness.

I fail to understand the exact characteristics of a holy person. Someone should help a brother out.

In my view, only God is holy. We as humans try to emulate some of the good deeds in reaching out to our salvation. But one cant be holy , for we are all sinners and born of sin. We only try daily to walk with him, know his word, acknowledge him in our lives and build our relationship with him as well as living as real testimonies to them who do not hold any belief in Him.

As much as possible, i always have the view that, no one can be exempt him or herself out to proclaim to be holy. We only try our best to live a just life as none can be perfect. In so doing, we are blessed daily with what we ought to have in each rightful season.

In my opinion, being holy does not mean to be sinless, but to sin less.

Ah, if we could only see the halo above such person's head, it would be much helpful :-D

    Hi guys!

I was going through the discussion and few scriptures came through my mind,( 1peter2:9) says but you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation( God's ) own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

colossians 1:22 Yet now has ( Christ, the Messiah) reconciled ( you to God) in the body of His flesh through death in order to present you holy and fautless and irreproachable in His ( the Father's) presence.

My understanding of holiness comes from John 1:17 where it says the law was given through Moses, grace- unearned, undeserved favor and spritual blessings and truth came through Jesus Christ. So holiness in God's economy means separation to God, being holy means that you have been set apart , made uncommon from the rest of the world of unbelivers..we are very perculiar persons.

so when we get occupied with Christ and turn away from self and see Jesus, He is like a precious diamond, when we hold Him in the light of God's word, which ever way we turn Him, He sparkls with rays of beauty, perfection, righteousness, holiness, and wholeness. After all it is through His righteousness that we are declared right standing with God by faith, so God declare us holy and perculiar not because of what we have done or earned but because of what Jesus did at the cross, and today the bible says as He is, so are we in this world (1 john 4:17)

( 2 peter 1:5-9) it gets clear that if any individual lacks christian quality like self control, godliness or brotherly kindness, its not because he lacks discipline but because he has forgotten  the main clause of the new covenant. He has forgotten that the blood of Jesus has purchased for him the forgiveness of all sins. But if we remind ourselves daily that we have been cleansed from all our sins, we will exhibit more and more of this christian qualities. Our hearts will overflow with self control, godlines, perseverance, love...

I hope this revelation will enlighten someone atleast to see things from God's perspective..

    Brother Solico,

Holiness at its base meaning is - separation from the world and unto Christ. Core part of a holy person can be found in Matt 5 -7(mainly beattitudes), Galatians 5:22-23 and 2 Peter 1:5-8. There are others but those to echo these three which I have found (thus far).

Its only by the grace of God that we are saved. Christ said whoever wants to follow me, must deny themselves and carry the cross. So in my view being holy is all about sacrificing ourselves. Keeping away from the things of the world. We can never be holy before God  coz he is the only one who is completely holy, but he also said be holy as I Jehovah God is holy.

Rightly dividing the word of God will help us to live a free and righteous life, what Christ said before the cross and what He said after the cross matters, who He was addressing at that time, example, there was a time He would address His disciples, the pharisees, the unbelievers , the isralietes who were under the law, ( so many facets of different groups He addressed..

today we are not under the law, so if we ask the wisdom of God how  to apply His word under the new covenant, which is unmerited favor, a free gift of righteousness and the gift of no condenmation( Romans 8:1) we can appreaciate that we are the co- heir with Jesus Christ, otherwise denying what He says we are under the new covenant will be like   what Paul says in Galatians 2:21

(Therefore, i do not treat God's gracious gift as something of minor importance and defeat its very purpose) i do not set aside and invalidate and frustrate and nullify the grace ( unmerited favor) of God.For if justification ( righteousness, acquittal from guilt) comes through observing the ritusl of the law, then Christ, the Messiah, died groundlessly and to no purpose and in vain- His death was then wholly superfluous..

Now colossians 1:22 says Christ has reconnciled us to the Father through His death and had presented us holy and faultless in the Father's presence, so by faith thats how the Father sees us.

He also says  we are sons in Romans 8:15 but if we say we are not,are we not invalidating, frustrating and nullifying the grace of God and the finish work of the cross!
