About cMatch

Who can join cMatch?
All born again Christians age 16 and up. It doesn't matter where you live, what you do or what church you go to.

Is cMatch only for singles?
Nope. Everybody's welcome, wether you're looking for Bible study friends, prayer partners, penpals, or that one special person the Lord has intended for you.

Who is in charge of cMatch?
Some folks with years of hands-on experience in managing local Christian dating websites. We're all commited Christians. We were dissapointed to discover that there's no professional yet affordable website where Christians from all over the world could meet new friends and mabye their spouse-to-be, while sharing their thoughts about life, faith and culture. This makes cMatch both our professional vision and our ministry.

What software do I need to surf cMatch?
This website is optimized for Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox. Also, cMatch is fully functional in Internet Explorer 5.5, Internet Explorer 6 and Safari. Certain features require a recent version of Flash to be installed. On www.adobe.com you can download Flash Player for free. Firefox is also free and available at www.getfirefox.com. Also, we strongly recommend you to add cMatch to the safe list of your pop-up manager. CMatch doesn't contain pop-up advertisements, but uses pop-ups for chatting and for displaying certain error messages.

Will cMatch remain free?
That depends. Through advertisement revenues and by asking our members for donations we hope to keep cMatch free for all. However, if this doesn't generate enough income to cover cMatch's expenses, we may have no choice but to change to paid memberships.

I saw an inappropriate advertisement!
We need advertisement revenues to keep cMatch free. Unfortunately Google offers us limited opportunities to track or filter advertisers, especially since Google targets ads regionally. If you see an ad that's inappropriate, please remember the website address of the advertiser, and notify us. We then can use the website address to block the advertiser.

Sending mails to members

I received spam or inappropriate mail!
Please don't delete the mail, but report it to cMatch staff through our contact form. We treat spam and abuse reports very serious, and we have a zero tolerance policy for members who are abusing our system and annoying our members. However, there's more you can do. Go to the profile of the sender, and click 'Block member'. You'll no longer receive mail from this person.

I can't reply to a certain message and I can't visit the sender's profile anymore!
This means the sender is unfortunately no longer an active member of cMatch. In that case you can't contact this person through cMatch at this time. However, who knows, maybe he/she decides to re-activate her account at a later date.

Could you please pass on my mail to a member who is no longer active on cMatch? Could you give me his/her e-mail address or could you give him/her my e-mail address?
No, we never pass on e-mail addresses of our (ex-)members. Unfortunately, we're unable to relay messages.

I blocked a member. Will he/she know I blocked him/her?
Yes, but only after this person tries to contact you through the internal cMatch mail system. He/she will receive a message explaining that you blocked him/her.

Browsing profiles

What is the meaning of the icons I see next to a member's username?
Direct your mouse pointer on top of the icon you want explained. You'll then see an explanation of the meaning of that icon.

What are 'online members'?
These are members who are currently logged in at cMatch. You may try to contact them by private chat, or maybe you'll find them in the chatbox.

What are 'favorites'?
These is a bookmark list for member profiles you wish to re-visit or remember. You can add members and remove members by surfing to their profiles and clicking on 'Add to favorite list' or 'Remove from favorite list'.

What does 'Hide profile' do?
By 'hiding' uninteresting profiles you can surf search results more efficiently. Profiles that are 'hidden' by you will still appear in your search results, but they will be greyed out. Next time this username is listed in your search results, you'll know you don't need to click that profile again. Please note this is only a tag to assist your memory: it doesn't block mails, nor will this person find out you marked his/her profile as 'hidden'.

Updating my profile

Where can I update my profile or account?

Click on 'Update profile answers' to change your answers to the multiple choice questions. Click on 'Update account settings' to change your e-mail address, password, time out status and wether you wish to receive mail alerts. Click on 'Update photos' to add, change or delete your profile photos. And just click on the buttons 'Add', 'Delete' or 'Edit' next to the essay question if you want to update your answer to that particular essay question.

Can I change my location, username, age or gender?
Nope, unfortunately not. If you happen to accidentaly entered the wrong gender or date of birth, or if you wish to change your location because (for example) you've moved, please send us an e-mail and we'll update it. We don't change usernames because this is confusing to other members.

How do I remove my profile from cMatch?
All you have to do is let us know you want to leave. We'll remove your profile and cancel your account as soon as possible. We'd appreciate it if you'd tell us why you wish to leave us. It'll help us improve our service, or it'll make us happy knowing you found somebody special through cMatch.

Chatting with other members

How can I chat with other Christian singles on cMatch?
There are two ways to chat: through cMatch Messenger (our IM service for one on one chat sessions) and our chatbox (where you can chat with a whole group at once). See the questions below for a more detailed explaination on these two features.

How can I use cMatch Messenger?
CMatch messenger is our IM chat service for one on one conversations. It works pretty much the same like MSN or Yahoo Messenger, and it also looks similar. Your favorites list shows your single Christian friends who are currently logged in: you'll hear a sound when they get online, and their usernames are bright and bold. Start a conversation by clicking the small white chat icon right of the username of your friend, or by browsing his/her profile and click "Chat now". A new window will open, this is your chat window. The big white area left is your chat history (the instant messages you and your friend exchanged recently). In the white field below you can type your message. Click "Send" (or "enter") when you're ready to send your instant chat message. When your friend talks back to you, it will appear in your chat history field. You'll also hear sounds indicating you sent or received an instant message. You can disable the sound by clicking the button in the upper right corner.

The cMatch Messenger isn't working!
First, check wether you're using a recent browser and wether cMatch is on the safe list of your pop-up manager (see the anser to the question "What software do I need to surf cMatch"). Second, check wether you've enabled your cMatch Messenger by clicking "My account" and verifying you're accepting messages from everybody or from your favorites. If this doesn't help, please contact us describing your problems in detail, including error messages.

They're not responding to my instant messages!
It's possible your friend is too busy or is not in the mood to chat. However, it's more likely that your friend cannot receive your messages because he/she is blocking pop-up windows. You could consider sending him/her a mail asking to add cMatch to the safe list of his/her pop-up manager.

How can I use the chatbox?
Would you like to chat with a group of Christian singles? Click on the "Chatbox" tab to open a new window where the chatbox will load. In the big white area the current conversation is displayed, while in the lower white box you can type your group message. If you want you can click on a smiley or choose another text color. Click on "Send" to submit your message for all to read; it will appear in the chat history window.

The chatbox isn't working!
First of all check wether you're using a recent browser, wether you have Flash installed, and wether you added cMatch to the safe list of your pop-up manager (see the anser to the question "What software do I need to surf cMatch"). If this doesn't help, please contact us describing your problems in detail, including error messages.
